Modelling - lesson 1

Modelling - lesson 1

Your tasks for the lesson!

1.  Work through Activity 1 and Activity 2 tasks. Use Google drawing instead of Popplet as it's quicker!

2.  On a new Blog post for today, titled the same as this, write the following (or put it on a correctly shared and linked Google doc):

Explain what a computer model is.

Give some examples of where they are used.

Add in a screenshot of your Popplet or share and link your Google drawing mind map.

Add in a screenshot of your work using the flight simulation (either directly to your blog post or on a shared & linked Google doc).

Evaluate the flight simulation (good and bad features, how realistic it was, how easy to fly, etc) and say whether you think it has prepared you for flying a real plane.

I have made these tasks coloured so that they link in with goldsilver and bronze so you can see which are the most challenging tasks.  Challenge yourself!

Publish your post when you have finished!

Networking Lesson 5 - the internet

Networking Lesson 5 - the internet

Your tasks for this lesson!

1.  Download the red Editey and green Editey according to Activity 1 worksheet

2.  Open the green Editey and log in top right (school email account!).  First time log in, you will have to agree to everything in order to be able to continue.

3.  Once logged in, click on Blank.

4.  Use Activity 2 worksheet and copy the coding shown in the screenshots.

5.  Work through the examples shown on the worksheet until you get to the end.

6.  Once you've done this, you should have an idea of how the coding works and can add in to, or edit / change, the coding you've already done.

7.  To evidence your work for this lesson, you will have to screenshot your coding work, paste it to a Google doc and share it to Anyone with the Link.

8.  Paste the doc to a new blog post titled the same as this post.

9.  Underneath your pasted link, explain what the difference is between the internet and the World Wide Web.

Networking lesson 4 building a network

Building a network

Use the internet (I suggest GCSE bbc bitesize - computing - network hardware - P3) to help you find out all the items of equipment you need to build a network for a business.

Write up a report on Google Docs, explaining to the business manager all the bits of equipment you would need, even down to cabling, to build a network.

In the report, you also need to discuss the different ways in which a network can be set up (bus, ring or star), describe, with images, each type, including its advantages and disadvantages,  and then advise the business manager which type of set-up you recommend and why.

Your report will need to be smart, well-organised and clearly laid out.

When you have finished, share your report correctly (click Advanced, change it from Private to Anyone with the Link) and copy/paste the link to a new blog post for today, titled the same as this Blog post.

Publish!

Networking lesson 3 - transmitting data

Transmitting data across a network

Your tasks this lesson:

1.  Watch the video in Activity 1.

2.  Using the information from this video and from the presentation I showed you, create a Google slideshow that explains how data is transmitted across a network.

I want details of what exactly is being transmitted (what is that data that is sent, think binary, etc) and, using images from the internet, explain and show the differences between circuit switching and packet switching.

Explain which type of transmission is most secure (circuit or packet) and why.

3.  If you have time, animate your slideshow.

4.  Share your slideshow correctly (Anyone with the link) and copy/paste the link to today's blog post titled the same as this one.  Underneath your link, explain how the information from this lesson links in with previous lessons.

5.  Publish!!!
